Did you know, the oldest shark fossils found have dated back to 380 million years? That's how long they've been around!
For thousands of years, the teeth of sharks have been a symbol of protection, specifically in ancient Pacific Island history. Ancient Hawaiians and islanders often wore a shark tooth to ward off any dangers they may have encountered out at sea. This idea derived from a myth of a young Hawaiian warrior who went to sea and fought a battle with a sea god. He victoriously emerged from the waters wearing a shark tooth around his neck. Not only does the shark tooth bring upon protection to the wearer, it also is a nice gesture of respect and honor to this long-reining sea predator.
